09. David Cameron

DOWN 2

The Prime Minister will continue to exert a huge influence over the direction of healthcare policy, as ultimately, he has staked his political reputation on the successful implementation of the Health and Social Care Act. As such, he is equally culpable for the consequences if it goes wrong.

While Andrew Lansley has absorbed much of the vitriol directed at the Government from the anti-reforms brigade, there's no doubt who is still pulling the strings behind the scenes

Mr Cameron was not exactly in GPs' good books after accusing GPs of giving preferential access to dinner party cliques last year.

His continued backing for health secretary Andrew Lansley, regardless of how much he may be fuming in private at the way the reforms have been communicated, means he is unlikely to shoot up GPs' Christmas card – or dinner party lists – anytime soon.
