100 GPs facing call-up over Iraq

Nearly 100 GPs could be called up to serve in the armed forces in the event of military action in Iraq.

Defence minister Dr Lewis Moonie MP said last week that 96 GPs are currently volunteer members of the Defence Medical Services and as such could be called to service.

The Ministry of Defence said no figures were available for the number of GPs who were subject to military call-up as reservists.
