problem was the CXR did not show anything suspicious in the UK case - if it had, bronchoscope etc, would have followed swiftly. Not comparing like with like. However , should have been sent for CXR sooner - thought national recommendation was CXR after 3 week persistent cough unless patient young non-smoker.
I, too, looked at the date to see if it was 1st April! This is crazy and no-one should comply with it.
Is JH aware that GPs, as independent contractors, can treat people ineligible for NHS treatment either at their discretion or as private patients? If they have paid a lump sum for NHS treatment, they are going to be loathe to pay private fees to a GP. How will this be resolved?
Micromanagement from the centre yet again! Can think of lots of unintended consequences of this stupidity, but thankfully am retiring next year - I feel so sorry for those left behind!
