So glad that I’m retired and out of all this GMC lark. It is destroying our profession. The worst thing is that we are forced to fund all this
We have the best chance now and need to get rid of the GMC, which is now no longer fit for the purpose for which it was designed. Those in charge should all go, as should the idea of a “GMC” levy and a new government organisation created with no fees.
#GMC must fall.
A lot of us leave medicine because of the GMC. They don’t appear to me to care much any more than the BMA. I retired early and it took nearly 4 rather unpleasant months to get off the GMC register.
Time to get rid of the GMC. We should we still pay for all of this.
GMC revalidation. Agree with all above comments. Glad I’m free of da GMC!
The GMC revalidation convinced me to retire, get off the register and leave a profession I really enjoyed. This is why we are so short of doctors! Why is the BMA so frightened of the GMC? The news proposals are cynical rubbish. The GMC, paid for entirely by doctors, despises us and has the gall to claim charitable status. Dreadful.
So glad I am out of it all. My name is not even on the retirees GMC register so as to be able to sleep well. GPs are leaving the UK regardless of Brexit, Mr Bunt. I qualified in 1975, the good days. Now? So sad. So bad.
Why don't we all leave now? What ever happened to us electing colleagues to the GMC? Now it is all self appointed cronies, so no risk of dissent from within. So glad that I have left early, but what a loss of 40 years of experience to the NHS. Nobody in government cares how long patients wait. Get rid of the GMC and replace with a government funded authority.
The GMC today is totally out of control and pro patient. This latest offering is a very silly idea. So glad I left medicine and took my name off the register. Getting out of the GMC's clutches took nearly 4/12 despite having a clean ticket. Replace GMC with a sensible, independent regulator funded by the taxpayer not by doctors.
Like Hugh Priestly I retired early for much the same reasons, but getting my name removed voluntarily from the GMC register took months of being demanded to prove myself innocent of anything...
Comment withdrawn. Misunderstood gist of article. Apologies.
Author is OBE and retired GP. That's ok then.
