  • I'm being denied an appraisal - for being a British GP working abroad

    Mark Smith's comment 01 Aug 2019 10:13am

It is very poor that individuals don't follow guidance properly. In Wessex I have been able to do a session a year, keep up to date in Oz with RACGP and with Fourteen Fish logging everything and appraise easily enough. Australia is currently trimming down a lot on foreign GPs coming in and being well the wrong side of 45 age cut off for permanent residency (unless you want to work in the middle of nowhere sorting out Australian mega social inequity and problems with stuff all support available for you) I think I'll be back at the end of the current visa. So it is really stupid that staying a performer is made so difficult in some areas of the country. Do you want experienced GPs to get back to work quickly or want them to think twice about supervision and crap? Refresh on Emis or SystmOne and the latest throttling regulations and everything else is the same the Western World over. Bonkers

  • CCGs in talks over recruiting Australian GPs with £18k relocation package

    Mark Smith's comment 13 Oct 2018 2:18am

From the POV of having left and trying to get residency to carry on working over here, beyond any planned uk retirement date, I agree with all the above. Those who are coming back anyway will do, but any Aussie GP would be mad and frankly wouldn’t cope with the multitasking madness of British general practice. Limited facilities to investigate, told off about prescribing too much, referring too much. Inferior pay etc etc. A complaints culture etc etc. It would be a massive culture shock. Cost of living may be more here but so is pay. If you want to graft, rewards can be very generous. But if we can’t get residency as we are over age 45, new rules, we’ll take the 18 ta

  • GP recruitment issues push locum rates to £1.4k a day in one area

    Mark Smith's comment 10 Jul 2018 6:55am

An average of 700 quid a day, thats $1240 Australian. I'd class that a bad earnings day at 15 minutes an appointment, minimal paperwork, no visits etc. Not gloating, it simply shows how underappreciated and under paid UK skilled GPs are. (Daily Mail go to hell)

  • EMIS may have to pay millions due to GP reporting failures

    Mark Smith's comment 24 Jan 2018 5:44am

Emis and SysOne and light years ahead of the very dated and limited software for GPs down under. Its like stepping back 10 years. What I'd give for Emis in Oz
