Holy Smoke Batman
"Will you pay me per consultation?"
Responding to locum x, 95-97% of current "mental health issues" are nonmedical. GPs should be least best positioned for these problems if I had my way
"If....if...if...if...anyone bowls overarm I'm going to take my ball and my bat and my stumps and go home!"
I met Dr Khan ,i think, when i was 7 years old on a school playground
It is always instructive to read Angus and Chris sparring. But as soon as I see the lines about "taxpayers funding this or that", I would urge you to have a quick look at
Politicians can create and issue as much credit/money as they want. They just don't want to fund UK general practice
Lots of Guardian readers I know out there...anyone read what one of our own wrote today about wanting to "nationalise GPs"?
Wrong. General practice IS social work, has been for couple of decades
"As GPs we are uniquely placed..."
4th from last paragraph
I claim my five pounds in the Balint Bingo please
Bit of faux-outrage from everyone, I think. Up until 2018 homosexuality was illegal in India, and I don't recall any GP activism and protest against Dr Singh or Mr Mohdi
If they could show an instance where the pay RATE was different between men and woman, there would be some tiny basis for this shrillness
"Papa don't preach" I believe is what Madonna famously sang on the Statin Island ferry
Thanks for this article. I confess that I didn't appreciate the modern view of this condition. I am probably still stuck in the "manic- depressive " terminology mindset.
My question is whether lithium levels still need regular monitoring in the stable patient
Brilliant ! Now get some funding devolved to Local Councils please !! I can tell you that there is plenty of political will at local political level to re-direct funding to primary care
In my local area, I do GP locums and also work as a local Councillor, the communications we receive about the NHSE are sometimes impenetrable. However, it is not a party political matter. There was reduction in social policies under both Governments in the past 12 years. My personal view is that hospital geriatricians should be given/take on community roles
All due respects but this is a professionals'site and it is your rational choice to divulge and dilate your personal recent tragedy..
What are colleagues' thoughts on rational suicide?
It must be discussed.
Spending on suicide prevention has gone up hugely ( that is a lot of NGO types receiving good money) but suicide rates have gone up in the last 10 years in UK
Is there a basal and ineluctable rate of human suicide in all societies which we have to accept?
Please discuss this in your next blog
Young person gets "dissed" on social media. Self diagnoses ptsd from internet crib sheet. Her/ his GP although ideally placed dies nothing useful for patient. Daily Mail backs his/her version. Lawyer says Nice guideline not followed.
Some interesting points, but some vacuities too. GP partnerships, in exactly the same way as you say Private Companies exist to serve their shareholders, used to exist to maximise the profits of the partnerships. No?
Next time you are with a group of GPs, Dr Chand, do a hands-up for how many want to go back to being responsible for their patients 24/7/365.
P.S. this is my last contribution on this great site. You've guessed it after 6yr retired GP I got elected as a Tory councillor (boo hiss)in the last 24hr. Adios to my sparring partners here. I am not a WASP but I'm not a BAME either. My last comment to the Pulse readership is that identity politics is absolutely NOT a force for good in this world.
God bless everyone.
Apologies all round. The above comment written in haste and error

As a counterpoint to the usual socialist text shoehorned in by Dr Nagpaul -
on your behalf, I'm sure, some congratulations should be due to the UK conservative party for elevating the son of a pakistani bus driver to the post of Home Secretary- having already posted two permanent prime ministers who i believe can only be described in our times as cis-hetero-females.
In general...lefty-types only play the victimcard. (See other Pulse columnists, not Copperfield)
