  • GP leaders to call for removal of home visits from contract

    Scottish GP's comment 11 Nov 2019 2:50pm

An end to Home Visits is long overdue . I feel they should still be done for Terminally Ill and genuinely bed bound patients though . Even Care Home Patients can be brought to the Surgery if not bed bound . There should be an item of service payment for the small number of visits we would still do .

  • Tighten up your home-visiting policy

Apart from the 3 categories you mention almost every other patient could come to the Surgery and I think we should all be moving towards this .

  • Revealed: why out of hours is on a knife edge

    Scottish GP's comment 11 Feb 2017 9:21pm

I am a full time GP partner who also works OOH every second weekend . I used to do more but have cut back recently . I think a big part of the problem with recruitment is that our hourly take home pay rate is less than it was when our local service started about 12 years ago . This is due to the fact we now pay National Insurance on our OOH earnings when we never used to and our superman payments have increased . A single 5% pay rise over this period means the net effect is a significant cut in take home pay even before effect of inflation is taken into account . I am amazed how seldom this very important point is mentioned when recruitment problems are discussed .
