"Frankly shocking and irresponsible"....Hmm you do realise employees of any other company do the same and have been doing the same for decades. They move to wherever is best for them.
Why should NHS employees be any different just because they are doctors...or nurses...or physios...? They are only protecting themselves from the emotional hardship others not as lucky as themselves have fallen victim to by way of suicide.
The degree gives them the ability to practice medicine, it is not a chain and ball to keep them in this country.
If that is your aim then HMG should make all medical students work a 10 year contract forcing them by law to practice in this country. The only problem with that is no one will apply to medical school then.
The GMC have no clue how to improve things for either doctors or patients but need to be seen to be actively doing things.

If he does decide to go to medical school you must support him by helping him research training posts outside of the UK whilst he is at university.
Most do not leave the UK until after F2 but you can actually leave after F1 once gaining full registration.

The NHS is a healthcare company just like any other countries.
As such the NHS must remain competitive in today's market if it wishes to keep doctors.
So could people stop whining with piss poor statements like "your generation needs a good war".

This is a deeply worrying statement which contributed to me leaving the GP training programme.
1948 was a naive and juvenile period of time for the practice of medicine in general. Diagnosis and investigation was limited and so was the public expectation of the NHS. The public were grateful for whatever help they were given. When times were hard simply getting the NHS to work harder was enough to get by.
Since then medicine has progressed to match this equally progressive level of public expectation in what medicine has to offer the world.
Unfortunately, I feel this advancement has almost come to a plateau yet public expectation continues to rise (antibiotic resistance, lengthening cancer referral times, back-logged psychiatry outpatient clinics, over-loaded primary care services...)
Aggressive/overt rationing I feel will do nothing to tackle the root cause. Services are already being pruned and carefully allocated.
The NHS is a victim of its own success. What it really needs is a time machine. Either to go back to 1948 when what doctors had to offer the world was more limited, or to go forward in time where we eventually find the cure to cancer or obtain enlightenment thereby eradicating social depression.
Both the healthcare system and the legal system in this country and cr*p!
I honestly feel ashamed to be working for the NHS.
I found another case similar to Dr BG, it's interesting why BG is a criminal but no charges have been made against this doctor below:

Dentist are paid by "Units of Dental Activity" (UDA's).
Why on earth do dentists get paid according to activity but doctors don't?!
