The poverty, deprivation and suffering caused by an economic crash proposed by Hunt would serve only to widen inequalities and create more illness and early death for the most disadvantaged. This is not ‘flu. Kids need to be at school getting a mild dose and staying well away from granny childcare. This self serving pillock has jumped at the chance of adopting the populist response, just do that when (inevitably) the death rate increases, he can say a misplaced ‘I told you so’ and promote himself as the saviour of the nation.
Wow- amazed that no one has yet pointed out the core precedent of the gender pay gap. Opportunity. Many female GPs would be happy to ‘step up’ to taking higher risk roles and greater responsibilities, if they didn’t live in a world where schools think “child is sick, call mum first”, or where women are obligated by the majority of household/carer admin. It’s not about hourly rates, it’s about fairness and equality in life first, filtering down to the workplace
Tomorrow, after 12 years as a GP, I am leaving the profession forever. I'm 39. I should be in my prime, achieving good things for the sick and vulnerable. But I can't go on working 14hr days getting paid for 10hrs. I need to pee more than once a day. But most of all I can't work in a toxic society where my life is marred by the spectre of clinical risk, but at the same time, when I tell some people what I do for a job, they look at me like I've spat on their chips. Best of luck to all
I've had a warning pop up for 18m saying 'your current Microsoft software is not supported'. It's not my job to sort this out- I'm not from IT. I had an 18yr old lad in who laughed at my computer tower and told me it needed to be replaced. It's widely known that NHS IT has been severely underfunded for years. Hunt/May- we needed better funded IT a while back. Now people are dying. What do you have to say?
Or else what?
I don't know Dylan. I agree with you totally when it comes to the everyday surgery challenges which face us. But running towards the sound of gunshot takes incredible bravery, no matter who you are. I hope to God I'm never put to that test
I looked at this email for the burnout prevention day in York. It costs 30 quid. Which other profession charges its staff to attend a course to counteract the effects of its own miserable cataclysm?
