The BMA

  • BMA admits pensions battle could continue post 2015

    The BMA's comment 11 Feb 2013 1:21pm

There has been no “reversal” in the BMA’s position. The letter from Jeremy Hunt at the end of last year indicated that the Government accepted the reasonableness of our arguments against steep contributions tiering in a Career Average scheme. As we said then, and as David Bailey says here, this indicates there is at least potential for a fairer contributions structure after 2015
Meanwhile, we are still putting the case against the increases planned for this April and for 2014. Over 2000 BMA members have responded to the consultation on the amendments that will enact the 2013 increases. And while sadly it is not in our power to “block” the Pensions Bill, we are continuing to lobby for significant amendments.
