  • Jeremy Hunt: ‘I have no problem with GPs being well paid’

    Steve Nowottny's comment 26 Feb 2014 11:12am

Thanks Dr Ho - we certainly will...

  • Viewpoint: What is the health secretary trying to achieve?

    Steve Nowottny's comment 13 Oct 2013 8:49pm

Many thanks for your comments... Just to clarify, Dr Charlson was invited to write this piece in order to offer some insight into the thinking behind - and politics of - Mr Hunt's general practice reforms.

Dr Charlson is obviously writing from the perspective of a prominent Conservative party supporter, as is clearly stated in the article - however we believe it is this, plus his close contacts with ministers, which makes him ideally placed to explain a set of reforms which will have a major impact on the profession.

  • Five more GP practices face closure by the CQC

    Steve Nowottny's comment 03 Apr 2013 9:49am

Thanks for your comment - unfortunately the CQC has not been very explicit about why registration was refused. All they have told us is that the GPs were refused registration for failing to answer questions about their individual fitness to practise - this has now been added to the story. As we learn more we will report it.

  • Opposing the GP contract imposition was a gamble. Was it worth it?

    Steve Nowottny's comment 20 Mar 2013 6:53am

Dr Ho - many thanks for your comment. It's certainly a fair point, although the tagline on the cover you mention was actually 'Leader of a defeated profession?' - the question mark was crucial!

It is a matter of debate among GPs at the moment I think - but even those who claim the profession does seem defeated would not necessarily blame its leaders. As the next comment says, the Government is a monopoly employer which can effectively do what it wants - and currently seems to be doing so...
