all interesting conversations. What people seem to neglect is what is happening in response to restrictions imposed by there various interested parties. The locum rates are going through the roof. 27% of matriculating GP's are out right leaving the NHS... and locum doctors. choosing their own hours, have not administrative role, are making more money then partners without the headache of being one. This will quickly leave the NHS high and dry for regular working doctors, and no incentive for anyone to even bother aspiring to be a partner. If everyone goes salaried, and make the lousy 110k or less. would you choose £100 an hour locum job or your trust job for about 40£ an hour... in the end it comes down to chickens and your families...
Primary care physicians is the term used universally around the world( also internist;s) . I think it is more appropriate then general practitioner. However on the flip side, the title of consultant is silly, consultant of what. Specialist is a more appropriate title... ie. a cardiac specialist doctor.. it is concise, consultants is a term like special agent, begging the question of what? anyway its all semantics and irrelevant. Thats my two cents on the matter... what should be agreed however that the specialist, consultant, or GP is where the buck stops... a nurse shouldn't hold such a title unless the final clinical decision lays solely on the shoulders. If they have to consult someone else then the title would be of course a farce. I have seen many consultant nurses asking SHO's on opinions in the A&E i found their title ridiculous.
so are we saying that the GP's who decided to provide care to a community that is deprived and on benefits, with no other medical support;where no one else will even consider driving past are bastards? people seem to forget doctors are a international commodity. The UK is the lowest paying country for GP's not to mention for the rest of its doctors. Please note the international income scale in the Australia artical in the pulse. Australia > Canada > Ireland > USA > New Zeland > UK... what do people think we are going to work more for less.... Good bye UK me and 27% of the GP's a year can leave the village work to some other poor soul.
