My colleagues never learn!!Pandering to demand like this will merely increase it.It helps nobody and I would seriously doubt it significantly affects the demand on our hospital colleagues!
In countries where there are charges to see a Doctor/GP patients with minor illnesses see pharmacists and other cheaper health providers. These patients do not need to see a highly trained GP.It is a gross waste of recourses and training.I agree however that we need measures to reduce demand. This demand is not justified by Medical need.
The GMC-sadly like most Medical institutions has been taken over by political opportunists-the GMC has become the Medical Inquisition burning medical careers for expediency and politics. Forget about any sense of justice .Those on the present GMC would never risk their careers and pleasant lifestyles to fight for fairness for any of their colleagues-hell-they might have to go back and see patients!
Lets hope the GPC doesn't go the same way!
Never in the history of General Practice has it been let down so badly by abysmal leadership from the GPC/
