should that not be 4 out of 5 claims are spurious?
Large areas of Sheffield are struggling, many practices are a man down and unexpected sickness can destabilize. I would not be suprised if this happened here soon. Locum rates are nudging £100/hr if you include pension payments
To be fair on the BMA negotiators, the clause allowing unilateral change was said by the Government side to be necessary in case of national emergency such as a flu pandemic. The fact the Government were lying was not clear to everyone at the time.
and sometimes it is important to point out to the hospital that they are shirking their responsibilities and adding to the pressures that are destroying General Practice.
Unbelievable that this huge bit of news is announced by a junior minister to a GP newspaper.
Anonymous 3.45pm, what planet are you on?
"Unfortunately, the GPC is a small token subcommittee of the BMA council which in turn is run by secondary care consultants for the benefit of secondary care. "
No it isn't, GPC is a democratically elected committee representing ALL GPs not just BMA members and is the only organisation able to negotiate with Government.
Unfortunately for the last 15 years the Government does not want to listen
Passed 100,000 just after 5pm. Still going up at more than one a second
"There's no need to, there will still be lots of UK GPs desperate for work who will have to accept the £50k salary that UH, Virgin etc will offer."
So you as a practice manager have no problem in filling all of your locum sessions at less than £70 per hour do you??? Up to a few years ago your view was correct, now it has changed.
Locums have expenses and overheads that partenrs do not(each session I do I pay the MDU £25, I pay £6 for health insurance and put £20 to pay for not earning when on holiday, pension takes another £50-100)
I insist on £100 an hour as a result and I am turning down work, I retired a year ago an locum as and when I see fit.
Why is this article illustrated on the front page with an angiogram of this character?
Excellent article Marion, thank you
Time to go Phil, you know you have to.. Make it NHSE's problem and get your pension fully paid up as you are retiring through ill health.
The difficulty of recruiting is already causing problems. The over 60s are not the only ones going. at least 6 GPs aged 55 have retired in Sheffield in the last 12 months.
I know of another three in S Yorks who were at University with me who are also going . This is next door to tthe worst hit area with 60% VACANCIES in Derbyshire
I responded on the Times website to an article based on this bollox. They really are trying to implode Priamry Care.
"i note pay for salaried posts are falling in some areas but expenses and pointless repetitive paperwork is increasing"
I would love to know where salaried pay is falling, not anywhere around Sheffield
It includes seniority and premises payments, thses vary widely between practices and can be 10% of total income. This makes the whole thing of no use
Good luck to them getting full time GPs for £100k, I know of a practice that was offering £125 for 8 clinical and 1 admin and no one applied
if there is no shortage of GPs in Nottinghamshire then why did I offer £12,000 per session, £7k golden hellow and up to 10% performance related bonus for a salaried GP and get NO applicants.
For a full time GP this is equivalent to £125,000 per annum
I left last summer and am doing a bit of committee work and running and APMS contract. With my pension I am much better off and working less than 2 days per week
Only if offered >£15k per session with paid holidays and sick leave would I consider returning. anything less would be a pay cut
must be leagally challengeable. There will have been a contract signed at the begining of the year saying "you will get £x if you do y work." Not paying = breach of contract. Small claims court is easy and they would loose
So to make the assessment of how good we are easier we have to make the service worse so more people complain??
You could not make it up
