Well done Dr Harrop for pushing back at the “learned helplessness” culture we are being sucked into in the NHS currently
I concur with “too cross to talk”. The GMC should not have over ruled the tribunal- otherwise what is the point of having a tribunal in the first place.
“Patient is a spider” brilliant! Records are indeed getting less rather than more useful.
Apologies Dr copperfield- ooops.
Agree completely Dr Cooperfield - I have no issues with Dr Google at all!
Priceless- thank you for cheering me up!
Very good article and the first 2 comments- priceless!
This article has some good points re Jeremy hunt and his plans. He is a master of spin and I think the attitude against doctors from other countries that is being fostered by the tories is disgusting. The NHS needs all the staff we have and more NOW not in 10 years.
Well said Des. The lack of transparency over the harms of screening seems to be endemic in current times.
I heard pregabalin described as "poor man's cocaine" 5 years ago, been wary with it ever since but this article will make me more cautious again. Thanks Des.
I agree completely with the junior doctors decision to strike. Good on them for standing up for their working conditions!
I fully support the juniors strike and sincerely hope they will continue with the current plans unless the conditions of no imposition of contract etc are accepted. The government will try all sorts of tactics - no quarter should be given!
Just followed that link- very informing. thank you for posting it.
Get well soon Dr Phil. Always appreciated your articles. Time to put yourself and your family first!
While I do not agree with all Dr Gerada's views re salaried v partners based service, I completely agree that anonymous abuse is unacceptable. Many of us are struggling under current conditions and we need to consider all options. I am also grateful to my colleagues, of which Dr Gerada is one, who are highlighting the strain we are under.
From what has been reported I think the practice leaflet the Devon gp's produced was a great idea. We need to tell patients about the strain the service is under in clear and certain terms, this is much more effective than wishy washy campaigns like " your gp cares". As for Maureen baker I truly despair of the lack of support she gives our profession.
Thank you for the laughter!
I am full of respect and admiration for these brave doctors and their nhs colleagues.
I already have a secretary, admin and reception staff and health care assistants working in the practice. What new skills is a 3/12 trained person going to add to above who have been in post for years! I need to see my patient's blood tests and letters otherwise what was the point in arranging these things in the first place.
I cannot believe the RCGP came up with this nonsense, or are they propagating it for Hunt and if so WHY?
I agree it is about retention more so than recruitment. Spending half my time on pointless administration is not why I became a GP and what medical student observing would be thrilled by the prospect of that, unworkable contracts, longer hours for less pay etc. if we cannot retain the workforce how can anyone expect to recruit into it!
