Very important to raise awareness of risks but there needs to be constructive support offered. Most people know that they should eat healthily and exercise etc but need psychology as well as physical support. Worth the NHS putting some money into prevention and sort out the sugar industry etc. Public health initiatives as just telling people to lose wt hasn't worked yet! x
Presumably if GP's are salaried they will be paid for the hours they work which will be interesting and costly - all our part-time gps work long hours at home so do well over full time hours.
Interesting to know what sort of service the gp practices provided. In my area we have support from the DSN at the local hospital plus a large number of us completed the degree in diabetes care and offer I believe a very high standard of care. In my practice we always achieve almost all QOF points for diabetes. It is hard work and takes a lot of time in general practice but hopefully worth it for the patients concerned.
