5,000 patients support polyclinic fight

Nearly 5,000 patients have backed an LMCs' fight against Lord Darzi's GP led health centre plans.

The Beds and Herts Local Medical Committee says it has been indundated with support for a petition against proposals for a polyclinci at a site in Hemel Hemstead.

GPs in the area claim the centre will lead to the closure of existing surgeries and provide worse care for patients.

It is one of the strongest indications yet of public disquiet over the Darzi centres, although Pulse has reported previously how the Department of Heath has ordered PCTs to push ahead with schemes, even when local consultations have shown they are not wanted
