  • The junior doctors’ strike is not over for general practice

    Francis Roe's comment 09 Dec 2017 12:42pm

As someone who has recently finished GP training and as accepted a Salaried Post in a place where I finished my training I feel I can contribute a little bit to this discussion.

In my practice I was allowed to choose my "study day," and the day I was allocated an on call day (I chose monday). I was not expected to do extended hours and my practice respected my decision to support the strikes.

Other trainee's did not get this flexibility. They were told they were doing the friday on call, that they would be staying late on tuesday evening to do the GP surgeries extended hours surgery. They are now locuming, feeling that what they have learnt what there training is that you need to make sure you are your own boss.

  • GP training rota has turned me into a dinosaur

GP's were warned about this when the contract was in dispute. Did you do all you could do to help it

  • 'Do you regret choosing to be a GP?'

    Francis Roe's comment 07 Nov 2016 7:59pm

Err, if your struggling to cope doing nine clinical sessions a week then take a look at your lifestyle, cut some expenses from it and cut down the hours you work. I have no sympathy for some of my colleagues who tell me they have to work nine sessions a week when they have a brand new BMW, expensive holidays/house, go for constant meals out etc

  • GP trainees more satisfied with job than other doctors

    Francis Roe's comment 18 Jul 2016 8:16pm

Yes things are bad in gp land and we need to discuss this, but for goodness sake moaning about it all the time is not going to help and medical students and founations doctors are being put off at how miserable we all are.

I spent time at work selling gp as the wonderful job it is and i wish we would do the same. In no other job is it as easy to go part time or locum as it is in gp and this is something we need to sell to the upcoming generation

  • Comrades, it’s time to play dirty

    Francis Roe's comment 26 Feb 2016 8:25pm

You need to start by forming a gp facebook group, the junior one is an excellent way of haring information and humour

  • Junior doctor strike set to go ahead next Tuesday after talks 'break down'

    Francis Roe's comment 05 Jan 2016 10:55am

There is a Junior doctors contract forums, a consultant contract forum, where is the GP contract forum or equivalent? We may still get shafted but its united us and it has helped significantly

  • I love general practice because of the breadth of work
