8 – Dr Clare Gerada

Dr Clare Gerada has had an increasingly high profile while serving as vice-chair of the RCGP.

But she may come to even greater prominence this year, as one of two candidates in the RCGP's first female-only election for chair along with Dr Maureen Baker. She is a vocal campaigner on equal rights in the profession and is committed to making general practice a more level playing field for women, salaried GPs and those from deprived areas.

Dr Gerada is RCGP lead for child services and substance misuse, and a partner at the Hurley group clinic in south London – which won a bid for one of the capital's first GP-led health centres. She is also medical director of the Practitioner Health Programme.
