another last man standing
And presumably we would be litigated in the event of a problem developing because we had incomplete or no information about the patient.... but then we’re used to dealing with such events every day aren’t we?
Okay so we have to leave out factual details but presumably we can put in make believe details to make our appraisal portfolio look better!
So having been bludgeoned into using statins in the first place we are now told that they don’t work! And how much financial losses were there due to QOF because we didn’t reach target levels of cholesterol even with using statins?
So common sense finally prevails even if it’s years too late. Oh yes. If we now stopped statins in the elderly and they died within a short time no doubt we would then be litigated because the government has promised the public that immortality is guaranteed.
In my small, remote Practice I tried to be competent but, more to the point, tried to treat patients how I would like to be treated (or sadly how I would like to have been treated!). That approach seemed to work for all concerned.
The day of a personal service seem long gone in general practice and patients are clearly just a commodity to these ‘super practices’ but the term ‘super’ appears a bit of an oxymoron to me.
And who exactly takes responsibility for what has been happening where doctors reach the end of the line? The politicians will merely say ‘we didn’t force you to do that job’ which is probably why there is a relative exodus from NHS medicine.
When expectations and demands become more appropriate rather than exponentially increasing then that may be a good start.
I’m glad that I got out after 42 years working for the NHS before it finished me off!
Definition of ‘virtual’ : being as specified in essence or effect though not in actual fact, form or name. That says it all.... enough said!
Oh come on boys stop having a spat at each other. We are all part of the same club trying desperately to get by and a bit of support for each other’s views would be better especially if it didn’t directly impact on our own working lives
. What is appropriate for the population of Liverpool or wherever will be different to those in Penzance, Glasgow, Brighton etc.
There’s certainly a case that cannabis may be a safer option than opiates and we wouldn’t have to prescribe it just let those who want it get it of the street as they do already.
Anyway the drug cartels will probably bomb the legitimate cannabis producing businesses as their income reduces from street sales.
Perhaps euthanasia for the politicians who have been responsible for the current catastrophic state of the NHS would be a good starting point to try and rectify the problems! Oh sorry! Euthanasia in the UK isn’t legal is it?
Can we send those responsible for a course in Switzerland then, please!
We must have been ‘mentally deranged’ in the first place to go into general practice as it is now........ but it wasn’t always that way.
Find me a time machine to go back to the days when the working of the NHS was definitely ‘better’ for both patients and those of us who worked in the system!
Why’s no one listening you ask? Because in order to become a top politician you have to be born with congenital deafness.
And to those that disagree just prove me wrong.
I staggered on as a single-handed GP in a remote mountain practice and finally jumped ship at 65 last year but still feel guilty that I have left the rest of you in the lurch and let down the community that I served for 33years by leaving.
I miss so much but the system finally nearly destroyed me.
Au revoir my peers and colleagues. I hope that there will be at least one of you left when I need you in my dotage!
More cost cutting but we’re expected to do the work of the indicators for nothing to prove we are maintaining good standards of care. And I don’t believe NHS England that income won’t be affected as there’s always something hidden in the small print. Not only are we up the creek without a paddle but without a boat either. I feel myself going down for the third time!
Ever more additions to our perfect IT systems which never ever malfunction. Why not let all the IT savvy people just consult the computer and be done with it rather than have their time wasted needing to see a real person. It’s coming you know although pilots for this were found to be wanting! There’s a surprise (not!) but this would dispense with GPs altogether and what a saving that would be for the NHS with all that freed money to be used so appropriately! Yes I got a gold medal in cynicism at the last Olympic Games and will be there to defend my title next time!
So patients value GP quality do they? What do they know because clearly the politicians value us about as much as they value dog poop on the pavement!
As usual it appears to be too little too late and anyway who’s really going to want to work in a clearly failing system? Certainly not in the long term if they’ve got any sense.
It would then appear that DOH figures for the current GP workforce apparently seems to include those that have died! In which case there are even fewer of us doing the work! This puts a whole new spin on the figures that put into the public domain doesn’t it!
Does the government really care even though JH has admitted that he’s struggling to recruit 5000 extra GPs by 2020. It’s not just that they want us to fail but that it’s guaranteed the way things are going.
That’s what politics is all about. ie vote for me so I can promise what you want even though it’s not possible. What staggering intellect there is in the government that JH has admitted that he can’t keep his promises to provide an extra 5000 (or even 1) GPs!
But of course don’t you realise that we have nothing better to do than just wait for the phone calls or consultations about their medications.
Also if they cannot go on holiday because their medications are illegal in their destinations then it must be our fault and we’ll be litigated accordingly!
The powers that be almost certainly will sue you for not having a plan in place but conversely couldn’t we sue them for not having a robust plan in place too?
