A new number 1 in the fictional GPs list?

Predictably there were a few Doc Martin fans, plenty for Dr Andrew Manson from The Citadel (don't remember that one myself), one for Dr Mopp from Camberwick Green (Dr Shan Whitear) and a nomination for Dr Finlay - although it was on the basis that the GP in question couldn't think of anyone else.

We ask because there's a new GP to add to the collection - Dr 'Katie' from the new 'sex fuelled' BBC series Mistresses (pictured above) - who might leap to the top of many lists.

Played by the delectable Sarah Parish (who is probably best known for playing a hairdresser), Katie is according to one reviewer 'calamitously misguided'.

This is on account of her having been in a secret two year relationship with a terminally ill, married ex-patient, who has just died.

It's fair to say then that Katie may well top people's lists for reasons other than her clinical and practice management skills. She certainly wouldn't have many fans at the GMC or the new super-regulator the CHRE (sleeping with patients, career-threateningly bad idea - see new guidance out this week. Sleeping with married, terminally ill patients, bad idea on so many levels).

Perhaps not the best role model for the legions of new female GPs entering the profession. Still, she'd probably suck in all the heartsinks so maybe she'd be a good addition to a practice.

If you've seen Mistresses (BBC1, Tuesdays at 9pm), let us know what you think of Dr Katie.
