Appraisals' cash anger

GPs in Gloucestershire have condemned a decision by three PCTs to axe funding for appraisals.

Cotswold and Vale, West Gloucestershire and Cheltenham and Tewkesbury PCTs told

practices this week that appraisers would only be paid if GPs met the cost.

Dr Philip Fielding, a GP in Cheltenham and an appraiser, branded the move 'an extremely retrograde step'.

He said: 'As far as I'm concerned, this appraisal programme has halted. Yet again this is money being taken away from education.'
