Christmas has officially been cancelled by Ben Bradshaw, Pulse can reveal. Asked by the Tories in a parliamentary question what budget the Department of Heath had set aside for festive parties this year, the health minister replied there was none.

The minister, spotted not so long ago throwing some serious shapes on the dance floor with a former well known WAG and former partner of a certain ex-England manager, seemed keen to re-assure the Conservatives-who it goes without saying would never spend huge sums on parties- that there would be no such frolics for the rest of us.

Even the annual reception for journalists in December was in doubt, he said, and if it did go ahead the Department would try to bring down last year's cost of £1,079.30.

Don't tell us even the Department's finest egg and cress sandwiches are at risk from the credit crunch.
