Chink of light on vaccine target pay

The Government has opened the door to allowing informed dissent to count towards vaccination and immunisation targets under the new contract.

Dr Hamish Meldrum, joint-deputy chair of the GPC, said Chief Medical Officer Professor Sir Liam Donaldson had been the 'sticking point' but there was a 'glimmer of light' that GPs would be allowed to count informed dissenters towards targets.

He said: 'It is possible we will get informed dissent. We are supposed to take patients' views into account ­ it is ridiculous that practices are penalised for this.'
