Choose and Book does not put records at risk

The confidentiality of patients being referred via Choose and Book has not been put at risk (‘Choose and Book upgrade a confidentiality risk', 2 August).

Contrary to your article, ‘failsafes' have not been removed, but rather Choose and Book is now consistent with wider Connecting for Health policy.

A patient dissenting from the NHS Care Records Service can still be referred through Choose and Book.

Patient information is simply transmitted from GP practice to hospital and sent as part of a clinical communication to support patient care.
