The Government will provide a breakdown for prioritisation for the new approved Covid-19 antibody test ‘in due course’, it has said.
This comes as Public Health England (PHE) approved the first antibody test for use in England this week, manufactured by Swiss company Roche.
In yesterday’s coronavirus briefing, deputy CMO Jonathan Van-Tam said the test may be 100% accurate.
Asked by Pulse whether GPs would be prioritised for testing to see if they have already had the virus, a Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said they expect to set out plans for prioritisation when they announce the rollout of the test ‘in due course’.
The news comes as NHS England recently said that symptomatic GPs should stay off work even if they have had a negative test for current Covid-19 infection, because of the worry of false negatives.
GPs can get a test to check whether they have currently got the disease via a central portal.
