In 2015, the health and social care cost of malnutrition in England was £19.6 billion, with half of this expenditure spent on malnourished elderly patients.7 Nutritional support with energy and protein supplementation can help to prevent or manage malnutrition leading to frailty in elderly patients.6

The cost of appropriately prescribing oral nutritional supplements (ONS) may be offset by the savings associated with improved clinical outcomes.8

Remember, ONS are only cost effective if they are clinically effective. That means prescribing the right product for the right length of time.
