Close ties mean I'll still do out-of-hours

Rural GP Dr Michael Scott says he will need to work out-of-hours shifts to preserve his close relationship with his patients. Dr Scott and his partners in Brookborough, County Fermanagh, work eight sessions a month and will continue to do so under the new contract despite dropping out-of-hours responsibility.

'Rural practices are a bit more part of the community,' he said. 'Northern Ireland is a more insular place and people tend to know each other. List sizes are bigger in England and they can have a more business-type attitude.
