Closed list warning over new work

Primary care trusts may look less favourably on practices with closed lists as preferred providers of enhanced services, an LMC has warned.

Dr Richard Vautrey, medical secretary of Leeds LMC, said representatives from South Leeds PCT told him trusts would be wary about contracting with practices that had closed their lists.

He said: 'One or two PCTs have said practices would need to be careful they would be able to do the enhanced service. The trust would need to understand why their lists were closed.

'We want to avoid a punitive system whereby a practice with a closed list for understandable reasons was unable to provide basic care. If they already provide IUCD fitting services and have got the appropriate skills it would seem unreasonable to deprive them.'
