College backing for new guide to 'good practices'

The RCGP has officially endorsed a 'Good Pub Guide'-

style website that enables patients to compare practices' performance.

The site, developed by the University of Manchester's National Primary Care Research and Development Centre, enables practices to advertise their services, including their quality of care.

Practices pay £250 a year to include their details on the site, which includes information such as patient survey results, QOF scores and an independent researcher's opinion of the practice.

Professor Mayur Lakhani, chair of the RCGP, said: 'The Your GP website will enable patients to be better informed about their practice and so strengthen the doctor-patient relationship.'

The college recently ended talks with the Department of Health on developing a system to accredit practices according to the quality of care they
