Counselling service for GPs deluged since new contract

Dr George Kassianos used his final words as PEC chair of Bracknell Forest PCT to launch a stinging attack on his local MP over his 'damaging' stance on MMR.

Dr Kassianos, a GP in Bracknell, Berkshire, used his exit interview to rebuke Conservative MP Andrew Mackay for criticising MMR, promoting use of single vaccines and failing to support a GP campaign to improve uptake.

Mr Mackay recently ignored requests to take part in a MMR publicity campaign, after his original comments on the vaccine had seen local uptake fall by more than 20 per cent.

'He has done a lot of damage. MPs have a public health responsibility. Their words count,' said Dr Kassianos, who is also RCGP immunisation spokesperson.
