Coverage of Pulse’s blacklisted drugs investigation, nurses slam Lansley, and, honey, here’s how you fight MRSA

By Gareth Iacobucci

Our round-up of the health headlines on Wednesday 13 April.

Pulse Ace Reporter Lillian Anekwe's investigation into blacklisted drugs gets plenty of coverage of this morning from our Fleet St pals, including on the front page of the Telegraph and in the Independent.

Hell hath no fury like a group of nurses scorned, with the Telegraph reporting that Embattled Health Secretary Andrew Lansley ™ is facing a vote of no confidence from the RCN after being accused of lacking the courage to explain radical NHS reforms to them.

The good news just keeps on coming for Mr Lansley, with the Guardian's front page leading with a warning from Britain's leading A&E chief that casualty units are struggling to cope with the surge in demand for urgent care, as new figures pointed to a steep rise in A&E waiting times.

The Mail reports on new research that suggests eating four apples a day could help us improve cholesterol levels and lose weight. How do you like them apples?

And the Independent reports that Manuka honey, the premium nectar product found on ‘fashionable' breakfast tables (probably the sort of tables where Indie writers eat their organic ethically sound porridge each and every morning), could help battle against MRSA, according to scientists.
