Darzi gives the people what they don't want

Lord Darzi may have feared he would need the ceremonial scissors for protection today, when he went off to Bedfordshire to open its first new GP led health centre.

The health minister cut the ribbon at the The Putnoe Medical Centre, in Bedford, boldly declaring that the new facility would offer the local community ‘the greater choice and flexibility they want.'

Are these the same residents of Bedfordshire who together with their neighbours in Herts put together a 92,000 strong signature petition demanding that the rollout of the centres is stopped because it risks destablising existing GP surgeries?
