December 12 key contract date

GP negotiators have set themselves a December 12 deadline to provide practices in England and Wales with crucial contract documents.

In a progress report on implementation, the negotiators pledged to publish comprehensive guidance, draft contract regulations, the draft model contract and a statement of financial entitlements. GPs will then get an indication of their global sum in January.

The report also sets down a protocol for handling disputes between GPs, LMCs and PCOs over implementation until the deal comes into force in April. Lack of action by PCOs, misinterpretation of the contract and 'rumour that needs to be managed' were highlighted as problem areas.

If the dispute cannot be resolved locally and remains unresolved after a month, the GPC said it may publicise it.
