Depression is next on team agenda

Depression is set to be the next major chronic disease area to be tackled by the National Primary Care Development Team.

Team head Sir John Oldham said it would focus first on new work on COPD and diabetes in England and diabetes in Scotland, but depression would be his 'favoured' next area.

'I'm quite interested in pursuing it at a national level,' Sir John, a GP in Glossop, Derbyshire, said.

The NPDT has 4,900 practices following its advance access appointments initiative and also runs the CHD primary care collaborative.
