DH reviews HPV vaccine

The Department of Health will soon announce which vaccine will be used in the next four-year HPV vaccination programme, amid pressure to switch from Cervarix to Gardasil.

In 2008, The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation recommended Gardasil use, and the BMA is also in favour. Gardasil is known to provide protection for genital warts.

A DH spokesperson said: ‘England has one of the most successful HPV vaccination programmes in the world.'

'Discussions on the new tender are concluding and an announcement will be made in due course.'
