'Do not dump sewage near us' say GPs

Dr Robert Flowerdew and Dr Sinclair Scott are leading a protest against plans by Scottish Coal to dump sewage from England on an open-cast coalmine near their surgery in Lanarkshire.

The sewage will be used as fertiliser for tree planting on land near the practice in Douglas. 'I feel Lanarkshire is being dumped on because it's small and fairly deprived,' Dr Flowerdew said.

'There are no fields or farms here we don't need the sewage if it's just to fertilise the ground.

'The real tragedy is we can't find out what's going on.'
