Dr Tim Williams claims cannabis plays a 'small role' in road traffic accidents (Clinical, February 23). This is certainly not borne out by a survey in the USA.

Out of some four million high school seniors approximately 600,000 admitted to driving under its influence and 640,000 after drinking. Of those 600,000, 38,000 reported in 2001 that they had crashed as result, not much below their total for alcohol-related accidents, 46,000. Airline pilots on flight simulators could not land their plane properly even 24 hours after a joint.
