Enhanced services crunch

GPs at the Chafford Hundred practice are baffled after being told their weighted list has fallen even though they have taken on more than 700 patients this year.

In February the Essex practice's actual list was 12,309 and its weighted population 9,402. By April the list had jumped to 12,832 but the weighted figure dropped to 9,193.

Dr Tony Abela said the practice had since taken on more patients but was now considering closing its list as there was no incentive to expand further.

'We could be on the MPIG forever and we will never be able to survive on the global sum,' he said.
