Job description

Tutors work in pairs to facilitate eight to 16 patients through a six-part course that covers topics such as relaxation, diet, exercise, fatigue, breaking the symptom cycle, managing pain and medication, and communication with healthcare professionals.

LTC patients or people with experience of caring for someone with an LTC.

Training and accreditation

The Expert Patients Programme Community Interest Company (EPP CIC) offers a four-day tutor training course. Tutors are accredited after being assessed on the first two courses and visited by an assessor every 12 to 18 months or after six courses, whichever comes first.

EPP CIC is due to launch a competency-based framework for expert patient trainers and other tutors of self-management, including health and social care professionals, next month.

Salary

£70 for each two-and-a-half-hour session (some are unpaid volunteers)
