'Finish contract by April or I will retire'

Dr Abdul Karim will wait no longer than April next year for a fully priced new contract otherwise he will retire.

The GP in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, said he may put the retirement date pencilled in his diary back by a year if the contract appeals to him.

His comments follow GPC warnings of delays in the pricing of the contract and remarks by Dr John Chisholm this week that the GPC may attempt to renegotiate aspects of the contract with the Government if GPs vote No in February.

'I think I will wait until the end of the financial year,' said Dr Karim.

'If it is dragging on it may be time to hang up the gloves and seriously consider retiring. Depending on when it comes, I will either change [my diary entry] to red pen or erase it.'
