Global sum rises to meet practice staff expenditure

GPs would get significantly more than £53 per patient in their global sum payments next year in order to cover increases in their practice staff costs, the GPC says.

GPC joint-deputy chair Dr Simon Fradd said the global sum figure for the average GP would be increased to take account of higher pension and national insurance costs for staff, but he did not know by how much.

He added that the figure would not be included in the new contract ready-reckoner to prevent GPs thinking they were getting more money when it would only be going on the extra expenses.
