GMC cuts costs for refugee doctors

The GMC has cut the cost for refugee doctors to join the medical register by £200.

The move brings the total cost of joining the register for a refugee doctor to £865.

The cost of the Professional Linguistic Assessment Board part 2 test has been cut by £100 to £330 and the initial registration fee by £100 to £290.

GMC president Sir Graeme Catto said 'We recognise refugee doctors face particular financial hardships when they arrive in this country.'

The GMC registers around 100 refugee doctors a year out of a total of 11,500 new

registrants.
