GMC seeks GP volunteers to guide policymaking

The GMC is seeking GP volunteers to join a new advisory panel to guide the Council on controversial regulatory issues.

The new GMC Reference Community – consisting of 25 medical and 25 lay members -will advise on contentious topics such as revalidation, fitness to practise guidelines, and good medical practise guidance.

Each volunteer will be asked to give around 20 to 30 hours per year, to comment on draft publications; replying to polls or questionnaires, and occasional meetings that can fit around personal or professional commitments.

But members will not be asked to make policy decisions.

The GMC said the group would provide ‘an additional route for the GMC to hear the views of the profession'.
