GP aims for record flu vaccine uptake

Dr Raina Patel's practice has already vaccinated more than 90 per cent of patients over 65 against flu this winter putting it on course to beat last year's 92 per cent uptake.

The one-and-a-half partner practice won an award for the highest uptake in Stockport PCT last winter.

Dr Patel said the success was down to good planning and teamwork. She added: 'There are a lot of myths about vaccination so we have to sell it to patients. We must be positive but listen to their concerns.'

She had saved part of the money allocated to her practice for flu vaccination by ringing patients herself instead of sending out letters.
