GP attacks cost of flying in surgeons

Dr Andy Littler is angry surgeons are being

flown in from South Africa to conduct joint replacements when GPs are being told there is no cash for enhanced services.

Cumbria and Lancashire strategic health authority was forced to advertise for patients needing hip and knee replacements after local surgeons declined to make referrals to the South African team.

Dr Littler (pictured), chair of West Lancashire LMC, said: 'It annoys me money has been spent on this when we're bidding for enhanced services.'
