GP brands MMR policy 'arrogant'

Dr Bashir Qureshi has branded the Government arrogant for denying legal aid to parents who claim MMR has damaged their children.

GPC member Dr Qureshi, a GP in Hounslow, Middlesex and past president of the general practice section of the Royal Society of Medicine, said he believed MMR was safe but parents should be given the choice of single vaccines.

'To just go forward with it and tell parents MMR or else is arrogant,' he said.

The Legal Services Commission last month withdrew funding for a High Court test case involving more than 1,000 parents alleging a link between MMR and brain disorders such as autism.
