GP calls for flu campaign in schools

Dr Gregor Purdie is calling on the Government to act on this season's growing influenza outbreak in children by considering a mass vaccination campaign in schools.

Dr Purdie, a GP in Dumfries ­ where flu has now hit official epidemic levels ­ said: 'I am going to talk to health officials about lessons that can be learned and whether an effective way of managing this is to look at the School Health Service immunising all children or just children at risk.'

GP consultation rates for flu-like illness stand at 602 per 100,000 per week in Dumfries.
