GP gets minister's pledge on PMS pay

Dr Andy Paton brandished a promise from John Hutton that PMS GPs would get the chance to compare their current income with funding under the new GMS contract.

In the handwritten letter, the health minister said PMS GPs 'will be fully able to decide whether and when to return to a GMS contract'.

Dr Paton, chair of Torbay LMC in Devon, said he was about to renew his PMS contract and needed to know how long to stay with PMS or whether to switch back.

Rumoured Government plans for a national roll-out of PMS if the contract was rejected would be bad for GPs, he added.

'At the moment we have got a very good relationship with our PCO but the minute they have the upper hand and are able to impose on us, who's to say they will not?'
