GP in probe over expired vaccine slip

A primary care trust has launched an investigation after discovering a practice may have administered out-of-date or ineffective vaccines to 215 patients.

Lanarkshire PCT said its initial inquiries into immunisations given at Dr Tahira Idrees's singlehanded practice in Airdrie indicated that 85 children and 130 adults may have been affected.

The vaccines involved include polio, DTP, Hib, meningitis C and MMR. Some were past their expiry date and others had not been stored at 2-8° centigrade.

A PCT spokesman said Dr Idrees 'had expressed her regret' and would appear before the trust's professional support committee.
